Sevens & Classics at Snetterton 300 – Round 5

It was a busy and topsy turvey day for Frugal Racing at Snetterton race circuit. A good result came from a day which could have easily seen us stopped out on track.

Qualifying started dry but with the heavens threatening. By lap 3 conditions had worsened to the point that nobody would improve on the lap times they had already posted, luckily that left us starting 3rd on the grid thanks to Ben.

The start went well, despite a tactical starting position from the mangoes racing seat ahead we slipped through into second off the line. This was sadly short lived as less than halfway through the lap the Super Cupra proved too much to keep a hold on and promptly demoted us to 3rd on its was to the lead of the race.

The next 8 laps became a straight fight for second between us and the Clarke Racing Porsche Boxted S.

A slight breakdown in communication meant our pit stop fell a little short of the regulations and we were penalised with a drive through penalty. Although this scuppered any chances of an optimistic battle for the lead, a clinical drive from Ben brought us home in 3rd position, 2nd in class behind the CR Boxter.

Although being a result not to be sniffed at we couldn’t help taking some concerns away from round 5. A cooling issue had plagued our off season which proved to be more than we expected this weekend. By lap 4 we had overheating issues with coolant being sprayed backwards from the front of our car. Cleaver management got us to the end of the race but a lot of work will need to be accumplished between now and round 6 in 2 weeks time at Brands Hatch.

A huge thanks again to our sponsors:
